The city of Escondido in San Diego's North County recently started working on a long-term plan to revitalize its historic downtown area, which has been struggling economically for a number of years. City officials and local developers are working to create a thriving and bustling downtown by bringing a greater residential density to the area.

Several housing projects in downtown Escondido are already under construction, and a number of others are in the planning phase. In the coming years, city officials expect the downtown area to be home to thousands of new residents. Local officials are hoping the residential developments will boost businesses and the downtown economy by creating an influx of new customers and increasing the area's tax base.
Along with more residential and commercial developments, Escondido officials are working with developers to enhance downtown infrastructure to make it more friendly for pedestrians. This includes adding more sidewalks and improving parking and traffic flow through the area.
